The Hauz Khas reservoir was originally built by Sultan Alauddin Khalji around 1296 CE to supply water to his new city of Siri. Feroz Shah Tughlaq later restored the reservoir and built the madrasa complex around it in the 14th century — making it one of the finest educational institutions in medieval India.
